The Carmarthenshire Rivers
Trust
Mission statement:
“To restore the rivers and wetlands of Carmarthenshire to their former glory”
Aims of the Trust:
-
To promote the conservation, protection, and
rehabilitation of the habitats, and indigenous species of plants and
animals, associated with the rivers, streams, stillwaters and adjacent areas
of catchment land in the County of Carmarthenshire and thereby enhance the
county’s biodiversity.

To advance the education of the public in the
understanding of such habitats and their wildlife, and the need for their
conservation, protection and rehabilitation.

To promote the sustainable use of the river and
its environment for economic benefit thus supporting rural regeneration in
Carmarthenshire.

The trust believes in working in
partnership with…

local authorities, government agencies and
conservation bodies to investigate the causes of pollution and habitat
destruction and to undo the damage in the most cost effective and
sustainable way.

farmers, landowners and community groups to
encourage understanding, appreciation, access and enjoyment of the
countryside in Carmarthenshire’s river valleys, particularly for young
people and those with disabilities.

local schools and community groups such as
wildlife and angling clubs to improve the aquatic environment and create
opportunities for learning about habitats, wildlife and conservation.
Community and Education sub group
Aim:
To work in partnership to help to
promote awareness and understanding of the river environment and promote
community participation in environmental improvement initiatives.
Objectives:

To facilitate the exchange of relevant
information between members and their organisations and develop and maintain
a database of current activities and projects.

To identify potential projects to further the
Trust’s aims and develop specific proposals with appropriate partners.

To develop and update a comprehensive
Communities and Education Programme and oversee its implementation.

To share best practice on environmental
education and methods of engaging the community
-
To operate in an inclusive and informal manner,
encouraging the participation of alternative representatives and non-core
members when appropriate.
